Family Holiday Traditions

Many family traditions are passed down through generations and give insights into our family's cultural or religious history. For example, my father's family immigrated to the United States from Hungary, and my mother's family immigrated from Scandinavia. So our Christmas traditions included eating Hungarian pastries called kolaches and fish called Lutefisk. While my mother's family crafted homemade gifts like hand-knitted socks and mittens, my father's family enjoyed the art of storytelling. Knowing that family traditions provide a consistent, comforting home base in a chaotic world, I wanted my family's traditions to not be about food or things but about experiences as a way to connect and create special memories. So every Thanksgiving, we have an annual Turkey Bowl, an intense football game in the backyard, and we make a family video to spread Christmas cheer. What are your family traditions?
